REMINDERS and ANNOUNCEMENTS:

– August 22nd (next Thursday) – Belton City Employees/Departments at Belton’s first Employee Conference.  Danny Dossman & Karen Stagner will represent the Club promoting membership and the Lions on the Leon.

– August 24th (Saturday) – Rob and Margaret Chadwick are retiring from Eldred’s Nursery. Anyone interested in going to the event, please let the Secretary know.  They are trying to keep it a surprise.

Zone Meeting – BLC hosting – Thursday, August 29th – James Harrison is heading up planning.  Theme is:  Together Again. Sign up sheet passing.

– Bell County Senior Expo, September 24th, 8am-1pm, Exposition Center hosted by the Belton Journal.  Sign up sheet.

– Lions on the Leon – Update from Monday, August 12 Committee meeting – primarily discussed 5K Fun Run/Walk and video promotion plans.

– Stampede Bike Ride 2025 Date – April 26th, 2025 Brett has been working on route and will schedule a committee meeting soon.
– Lions Foundation Annual Report – Belton Lions Club Foundation By-Laws and Constitution. Secretary Stagner has written Texas Secretary of State to see if they have a copy on file from around 1988-1990.

1st Vice President & 2nd Vice President – Christa Strang sent a letter of Resignation for herself and Bree to President Jennah.  Mark Bellomy is taking a full time job to supplement his business, he has asked to be changed to an At-Large Member – nominations now open. Please consider serving your Club – if you have questions or an interest, please contact any Board member.

Program: Keith Cook has invited Belton High School Coach Barry Campbell!  Coach Campbell filled us in on what they have planned for the up-coming football season and the players.  Thank you!

– Mark Bellomy presented that Business Network International meets every Tuesday morning at 8:00am, Church of Christ on Hwy 317; they offer no charge membership to non-profits; he suggested that the Club might want to join the Network.

– LEO Club Update – Brett – future interested LEOs can help with events, as they further their plans.

– Storage: The Club’s event materials and supplies; files; records; banners; etc. are being held in various locations.  Over the past 85 years, we have lost files and information.  There is a NEED to get all of this in one central location. The Board has suggested the purchase of a Conex container (approx. $1,500); and secure a location – currently hoping to set in Heritage Park – painted blue; with a large Lions logo on the side.  We will keep you updated.

Serving the Community: 2024 Back to School with God Backpack Project

Saturday, August 10th, 2024
What an ⭐️AMAZING⭐️ turn out to the “Back to School with God” event at Yetti Polk Park with Mt. Zion United Methodist this past Saturday‼️ Backpacks filled with school supplies, hotdogs, hair cuts, eye exams and loads of fun for kids.
SHOUT OUT to all the Lions that came out and helped set up, cook, serve and being apart of something bigger than yourselves.
Belton Lions Club cooked and served over 700+ hotdogs Way to go Lions We are ready to serve again next year.
Also, thank you, Virginia, Diane and Marylin with Temple Breakfast Lions Club for assisting with the eye exams. Your service to the community does not go unnoticed

REMINDERS and ANNOUNCEMENTS:

– FD Chief Jon Fontenot provide a handout about the upcoming CERT emergency preparedness training; and urged members to sign up ( handout: CERT Handout_20240810_0001 )

– August 22nd – Rebecca Phillips, Senior HR for Belton, has invited the Club to participate as a vendor promoting the Wacky Boat Race to City Employees/Departments at Belton’s first Employee Conference.  Do we want to set up a booth for the Club – promoting the Club and promoting building a Wacky Boat to compete? Yes, Danny Dossman & Karen Stagner volunteered.

– August 24th – Rob and Margaret Chadwick are retiring from Eldred’s Nursery. Anyone interested in going to the event, please let the Secretary know.  They are trying to keep it a surprise.

– Kathleen Brown, wants to speak at Lions Club – soon – promoting an upcoming annual Cancer Survivor Retreat, September 20-22, at Summers Mill.  She is aware that she cannot solicit a donation.  She is speaking at Temple Breakfast Lions next week.  She can either do the full program; or a brief intro/announcement before a regular program.  Secretary will check with Cree Childs to see what he has planned for the 22nd.

– Zone Meeting – BLC hosting – Thursday, August 29th – James Harrison is going to head up planning.  Sign up sheet next week.

– Bell County Senior Expo, September 24th, 8am-1pm, Exposition Center – the members have agreed to, again, provide volunteers to help staff the event hosted by the Belton Journal.  Sign up sheet next week.

– Lions on the Leon – All forms and flyers are posted on our Belton Lions Club webpage –Please “like” and “share” the videos on the facebook page.  We really need to start working on Sponsors. Committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 12th, 6pm at Danny’s home.

– Stampede Bike Ride 2025 Date – per Brett – the date of April 26th, 2025 has been set. Mother’s Day Tea is also that day, so some riders may have to park at Yettie Polk.  Brett has been working on route and will schedule a committee meeting soon.
– Lions Foundation Annual Report – We received an email from LCI to file an Annual Report – this is new reporting and filing for us.   The By-Laws Committee will be: Brett Beamesderfer, Larry Berg, James Harrison, Jennah Gliha, Karen Stagner and Wayne Carpenter. We have also reached out to Doc Weaver; Robert Jones; Brandon Bozon, Eric Banfield and Lea Batey.  Lea Batey suggested that we contact Texas Secretary of State – Secretary will send a letter.

– 1st Vice President & 2nd Vice President – nominations now open. Christa Strang sent a letter of Resignation for herself and Bree to President Jennah.  Mark Bellomy is taking a full time job to supplement his business, he has asked to be changed to an At-Large Member.

Program: President Jennah Gliha invited Ron Ducharme with Rescue Magazine.  Great program about the history and current status and activities of the organization, partnering with 70 shelters and organizations to help and support all animals.  Check out their website and facebook page.  Thank You!

Program: Mark Bellomy – Jack McChurch, Car Show hosted by Harper-Talasek Funeral Home, benefitting their Hospice Housing Program.  Jack is a member of Temple Founders Lions Club. Annie McCall, Director of the Hospice Care Home presented an overview of the home and their vision for the future.  The home opened in August 2023; served 62 guests; and welcomed 2,700 people through their doors.  The September Classic Car Show is a fundraiser for the Hospice Care Home.

– Lions Foundation Annual Report – We received an email from LCI to file an Annual Report – this is new reporting and filing for us.  We need to create a By-Laws Committee and find the Foundation By-Laws.  Danny placed a call and left a message for Eric Banfield.  The By-Laws Committee will be: Brett Beamesderfer, Larry Berg, James Harrison, Jennah Gliha, Karen Stagner and Wayne Carpenter. We will keep everyone updated.

Program: STAMPEDE After-Action Meeting (handout file attached) The handout is a listing of comments and suggestions from one or more riders from Stampede. Brett is going to adjust the route attempting to keep the ride in Belton; he will present it soon.  The Club will invest in professional signage – maybe color coded for routes. Members working rest-stops may bring their own canopies for shade. Add the National Anthem & Prayer before the ride.  More …

– Back to School with God – Brief Update from Jennah! Cooking and Serving 700 hot dogs, chips, etc…; along with the Temple Belton Ladies Lions doing eye screenings.  Partnering with Mt Zion UMC. July 20th, 9am-Noon, Yettie Polk Park – Thank you for volunteering.

– 1st District Cabinet Meeting, Saturday, July 20th 8am-1pm, Marlin, Texas – President Jennah asked James Harrison to attend and represent the Club. Thank you James!

Program: Scholarship Check Presentation – Todd Schiller – Congratulations to Charlee Maddux as recipient of our $1,000 Halley Cox Memorial Scholarship.  Heritage Park $5,000 Partnership Check presentation to James Grant and Joe Dyer – after an update presentation on Completed and Planned Heritage Park Phases.

Treasurer Report –

 – We have received the final Stampede check from Active.
 – We are waiting on confirmation of one (1) Stampede sponsorship payment – Media 2 Social.

 Old Business:

– Flag Program – (handout) we still have about $700 unpaid in the Flag Program.

– Back to School with God, July 20, 9am-Noon – Mt. Zion United Methodist Church “Back to School with God” backpack project. Yettie Polk Park, 9am-Noon.  Belton Lions will be providing, cooking and serving hot dogs.  Sam’s Club donated $50; H-E-B donated $200.  We discussed the Club purchasing their own tables and chairs for our events. Motioned by Karen Stagner, 2nd; passed to purchase four (4) 6’ tables.

– Lions Club Storage – currently storing in Stagner’s storage shed at Amy’s Attic. Event supplies and our boat(s) will need a central storage location.  The boat is currently being stored by Belton Parks and Rec.  Danny Dossman will get quotes for purchase of a conex container to be located at Heritage Park.

– Belton Bacon, Blues and Brews – Belton Lions will NOT be Plate Spinning or selling the People’s Choice tickets this year. We will plan to spot the Black Pearl on location during the event. 

New Business: 

– Our Club has submitted the Lions Excellence Award application to District for referral to LCI.
– It was motioned by Keith Cook and 2nd by Danny Dossman; passed to purchase a Memorial flower arrangement Rush Leigh; up to $150.00. 

Holding to a Later Date: 

– Membership Milestone Awards – Will we be presenting these at Christmas?  The Board agreed that Milestones will be in five (5) year increments; starting at 10 year membership. – John Corsi and Jennah Gliha.  Secretary has provided a Report of each member’s length of membership. – No discussion at this meeting

– Texas Lions Camp Visit – The Club will plan to visit the Camp on Friday, August 2nd and Saturday, August 3rd.  On Friday, Camp will have a graduation and awards ceremony from 2:30-4pm; on Saturday, the Texas Lions Museum will be dedicated. More on hotel options and transportation to be advised – maybe rent a bus.

– Mark Bellomy presented that Business Network International meets every Tuesday morning at 8:00am, Church of Christ on Hwy 317; they offer no charge membership to non-profits; he suggested that the Club might want to join the Network.

Membership Report – Karen Stagner – (handout) we still have $1,500 in outstanding dues for the 3rd quarter ending March 31, 2024. 4th Quarter Dues (April thru June) will be invoiced during the 1st week of July.

   General Account – $ 8,174.50

Old Business:

– Flag Program – (handout) we still have about $1,000 unpaid in the Flag Program.  President Keith previously assigned unpaid route participants to the members who volunteered to assist with the flag program (Mike Matthews, Keith Cook, Danny Dossman, Cree Childs, David Shaw, and Mark Bellomy).  And after discussion, it was agreed that when a flag needs replacement, the Secretary will send an email request to all of the team members; asking them to “reply to all” if one of them is accepting to take care of the replacement.

– Back to School with God, July 20, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church “Back to School with God” backpack project. Date has been confirmed as July 20th, Yettie Polk Park, 9am-Noon.  Belton Lions will be providing, cooking and serving hot dogs. (flyer attached)  Thank you Jennifer, Jennah and Keith for getting the information.

– Recap from STAMPEDE – Reviewed income and expenses / there are a few expenses yet to post.  Will update next week.

New Business: 

– Lions Club Storage – currently storing in Stagner’s storage shed at Amy’s Attic. Event supplies and our boat(s) will need a central storage location.  After discussion, President Cook asked Danny Dossman to check with the City about placing a Conex Container on Dossman’s property behind the animal clinic on 317; and to check into pricing for a container. Thank you Danny for offering the location.

– Next week’s 2024-2025 Officer Induction – President-elect Jennah Gliha and Jon Fontenot will invite Chief Larry Berg to officiate.  James Harrison will provide a copy of the Oath of Office. Thank you each!

Heritage Park Donation Presentation – President-elect Jennah Gliha will invite James Grant and Joe Dyer to the meeting on July 25th for the presentation.

– Belton Bacon, Blues and Brews – Belton Lions will NOT be Plate Spinning or selling the People’s Choice tickets this year.  The Police Foundation asked Judy Garrett if they could do it this year. We wish them great success for their fundraising efforts. 

Holding to a Later Date: 

– Membership Milestone Awards – Will we be presenting these at Christmas?  The Board agreed that Milestones will be in five (5) year increments; starting at 10 year membership. – John Corsi and Jennah Gliha.  Secretary has provided a Report of each member’s length of membership. – No discussion at this meeting
– Club Excellence Award – we are now eligible this year, incoming Board Members have completed online training; and the Club has completed the new Joint Service Project requirement.  We will submit during 1st week of July.
