Program: Wayne Carpenter invited Matt Bates to give us an update on the Storm Recovery and Clean-up!  What an amazing display of teamwork, planning and volunteering – 17K cubic feet of brush! Great Slide Show! To end the lunch meeting, Randy Pittenger gave us an energetic run down and timeline for the 4^th of July Celebration.  Always great to have Matt and Randy in the House!

Promo Video Clip Session – Saturday, June 15^th, 9am, Heritage Park – Thank you Christa Strang, Patti Powell, Danny Dossman, Emily Dossman, Karen Stagner – several clips were made.

– Texas Lions Camp Visit – The Club will plan to visit the Camp on Friday, August 2^nd and Saturday, August 3^rd.  On Friday, Camp will have a graduation and awards ceremony from 2:30-4pm; on Saturday, the Texas Lions Museum will be dedicated. More on hotel options and transportation to be advised – maybe rent a bus.

– Mark Bellomy presented that Business Network International meets every Tuesday morning at 8:00am, Church of Christ on Hwy 317; they offer no charge membership to non-profits; he suggested that the Club might want to join the Network.

Membership Report – Karen Stagner – (handout) we still have $1,500 in outstanding dues for the 3^rd quarter ending March 31, 2024. 4th Quarter Dues (April thru June) will be invoiced during the 1st week of July.

   General Account – $ 8,174.50

Old Business:

– Flag Program – (handout) we still have about $1,000 unpaid in the Flag Program.  President Keith previously assigned unpaid route participants to the members who volunteered to assist with the flag program (Mike Matthews, Keith Cook, Danny Dossman, Cree Childs, David Shaw, and Mark Bellomy).  And after discussion, it was agreed that when a flag needs replacement, the Secretary will send an email request to all of the team members; asking them to “reply to all” if one of them is accepting to take care of the replacement.

– Back to School with God, July 20, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church “Back to School with God” backpack project. Date has been confirmed as July 20^th, Yettie Polk Park, 9am-Noon.  Belton Lions will be providing, cooking and serving hot dogs. (flyer attached)  Thank you Jennifer, Jennah and Keith for getting the information.

– Recap from STAMPEDE – Reviewed income and expenses / there are a few expenses yet to post.  Will update next week.

New Business: 

– Lions Club Storage – currently storing in Stagner’s storage shed at Amy’s Attic. Event supplies and our boat(s) will need a central storage location.  After discussion, President Cook asked Danny Dossman to check with the City about placing a Conex Container on Dossman’s property behind the animal clinic on 317; and to check into pricing for a container. Thank you Danny for offering the location.

– Next week’s 2024-2025 Officer Induction – President-elect Jennah Gliha and Jon Fontenot will invite Chief Larry Berg to officiate.  James Harrison will provide a copy of the Oath of Office. Thank you each!

Heritage Park Donation Presentation – President-elect Jennah Gliha will invite James Grant and Joe Dyer to the meeting on July 25^th for the presentation.

– Belton Bacon, Blues and Brews – Belton Lions will NOT be Plate Spinning or selling the People’s Choice tickets this year.  The Police Foundation asked Judy Garrett if they could do it this year. We wish them great success for their fundraising efforts. 

Holding to a Later Date: 

– Membership Milestone Awards – Will we be presenting these at Christmas?  The Board agreed that Milestones will be in five (5) year increments; starting at 10 year membership. – John Corsi and Jennah Gliha.  Secretary has provided a Report of each member’s length of membership. – No discussion at this meeting
– Club Excellence Award – we are now eligible this year, incoming Board Members have completed online training; and the Club has completed the new Joint Service Project requirement.  We will submit during 1^st week of July.
– Friends of Belton Lions –additional Friend of Belton Lions: Hugh Shine– plaque has not been made – we need to schedule his lunch visit.
– Update on Cadence Bank – CD and other
– David Shaw – Deployment bags are requested for our Adopted Unit – tabled until Lion Shaw is able to provide details.

– LEO – Leadership, Experience, and Opportunity
– Specialty Products: We found Lions squeeze toys; and the previous BLC giant coloring book (given to Lea and Lorna to look into at the District and State level).  Fall Festival give-aways were about 50 of each item.  Lion(s) Corsi and Fontenot will continue to look into specialty products.

Program: David Tuma invited Judy Garrett, Belton Tourism and Retail Development, to give us an update on What’s Happening in Belton.

Great informative slide show and presentation – as always – from Judy Garrett.  After the program, President Keith presented Judy with the Club’s 2023 Spinning Plate – autographed by Club Members – for Belton, Bacon, Blues and Brews; then James Harrison presented Judy with a plaque to honor her as a “Friend of the Belton Lions”.  Thank you Judy Garrett!

– Stampede – Recap – $5,800 in Sponsorships – 103 Riders – Great Job! Thank you to everyone! The Random Raffle Prizes for the Riders were a hit.  Also new this year, the Early Packet Pick-up saw 20 riders – several out-of-towners staying in Belton overnight.  Schedule After-Action Meeting – July 18^th Lunch Program.

– Belton 4^th of July Parade – Danny – taking boats out of storage on June 30^th, 3pm (James, Jon, David, Keith, Mike, Karen). Mandatory Parade Meeting: Saturday, June 22^nd – Karen going, 10am, Pittinger Fine Arts Center. Promo Video Clip Session – Saturday, June 15^th, 9am, Heritage Park.

– Fundraiser Cruise Check Presentation – Doniece Gray, Your Travel Agent presented the Club with a check for Seven Hundred and Eighty-Four dollars from the Club’s Fundraiser Cruise earlier in the year.  James Harrison organizes a fundraiser cruise every other year for the Club.  Thank You!

REMINDERS and ANNOUNCEMENTS:

– Lions on the Leon – update from Wednesday’s planning meeting – Once the Bike Ride is completed, we will begin reaching out to get Sponsors for the overall event.  We already have two small business vendors and will continue to get more.  Food Truck applications will be distributed this week.  Danny will meet with Joe Dyer, Belton Parks and Rec to go over the logistics of the 5K Run, scheduled to start at 10am on the Event Date.  The Black Pearl will be removed from storage on Monday July 1st to start getting it ready for the 4^th of July Parade.  Volunteers to help so far are Billy Conway, Cree Childs, Christa Strang, Bree Vlam, Karen Stagner & Danny Dossman.

– Stampede – Saturday, June 8^th – New this year, Friday, June 7^th, 5-7pm, we will have Early Packet Pick-up at John Corsi State Farm Insurance on Lake Road.  Final Logistics Planning and Recap

Program: Sam Listi brought us a Program Tribute to D-Day, June 6, 1944 – Sam Listi provided a detailed overview of the Normandy Landings during World War II – including how the operation was planned, executed, and commemorated, and what impact it had on the war and history.  The Normandy landings were the largest seaborne invasion in history and were part of Operation Overlord, which was the Allied invasion of Normandy. Sam also shared his personal connection to D-Day – his Dad was one of the troops that went ashore at Normandy on June 8^th to continue the Allied assault across France, to Paris and beyond. Thank you Sam!

– Back to School with God, July 20, 10am-Noon –with Temple Belton Ladies Lions providing eye-screening – The Board discussed and approved for the Club to provide, cook and serve 700 hot dogs with chips.  Motion passed to approve up to $800 for the Community Outreach event – noting that we will utilize the $378 left over from the 85^th Anniversary and will reach out to Sam’s, WalMart & H-E-B to help offset the cost.
