HOCTIL – Pictures with Santa Claus

Belton Lions had the pleasure to host “Pictures with Santa Claus for Children with Special Needs and their Families”. Thank you to HOCTIL – Susie Marek for organizing this incredible opportunity to SERVE, and to, Michelle Renchler for all of your amazing help. Thank you to State Representative Hugh Shine for joining us during the festivities. Belton’s Bacon, Blues & Brews Cook-off – September 2022

Great time at Belton’s Bacon, Blues & Brews Cook-off over the weekend! Thank you Judy Garrett and City of Belton for the opportunity to sell the “People’s Choice” tickets; and introduce our Spinning Plates Competition. Innovative Bacon Delights; along with Energizing and Entertaining Music; made for a fabulous Saturday of Fun, Fellowship and Fundraising. The 2022 Master Spinner will be announced soon!

Board Meeting Recap:
Where do we send the eyeglasses that we collect?  Jon Fontenot – We will send them directly to Texas Lions Eyebank; this will enable our Club to get credit with Texas Lions and LCI.
The Board discussed getting the eyeglass collection box moved from City Hall to a more visible outdoor location – the Library is preferred, if possible and permissible.
Banner Stand and Specialty Products to give away.  John Corsi will get with Patti Powell about pricing for the Banner Stand; and Jon Fontenot will put together ideas and pricing from one of his vendors.  Information to be presented at next Board Meeting.
President Mike Matthews is generating a new Program Assignment list for January 2023.
Heritage Park Coordinator – Belton Lions Wall – Picnic in the Park – James Harrison will get with Matt Bates and report next Board meeting.
Future Boat Race Coordinator – Danny Dossman is assembling a committee and will schedule a planning meeting.
Stampede Coordinators –Reese Davis and Brett Beamesderfer / On-Line Active website is usually set-up in January to open for registrations.  Planning meeting to be scheduled soon.  Stampede is April 29th, 2023.
John Corsi will get basic t-shirt/polo shirt quotes from Patti Powell; Karen Stagner will get same from H&H – purple shirt, gold artwork.
Marek-Smith Training Center Donor Wall – Secretary Stagner suggested that the BLC sponsor a $2,500 contribution to show support and secure a listing on the Donor Wall. The Board agreed to present a sign-up pledge sheet at the next lunch meeting.  Danny Dossman pledged $100.00 and is challenging each member to match his pledge … or more.  It was agreed that the pledges should not be invoiced with dues.

Program:  Sam Listi invited retired Roanoke Asst. City Manager / Police Chief Gary Johnson, currently a Team Leader for the Texas Police Chiefs’ Accreditation Program – The Law Enforcement Accreditation Program is a voluntary process where police agencies in Texas prove their compliance with 170 Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices. Belton was the first police agency in Central Texas to be Recognized, and that occurred in 2011. Since that time, Belton has been re-accredited 3 times, with this current effort achieving a fourth accreditation.  Belton has also worked to assist other Texas police agencies, mentoring them in achieving Accreditation and delivering Best Practices. We are fortunate to have the level of professionalism found in the Belton Police Department through the leadership of ACM/Police Chief Gene Ellis.

Lion Corsi suggested that we have a prize drawing @ Charter Night for whoever invites (using the cards) the                                             most prospective new members.

Visit and Pictures with Santa, hosted by Belton Lions – 5:30-8pm, Dec. 22, Harris Community Center – for HOCTIL Families of Children with Special Needs. Members to bring Cookies. Patti Powell is helping to get photo set décor; John Corsi asked if some decorations could be used for the Dec. 15th Christmas Party.

Program:  On behalf of Lion Gene Ellis, Lion Sam Listi introduced Kelly Boggs, Gift Officer, UMHB along with Dr. Kris Ward – Dr. Ward provided an exciting and descriptive overall presentation of the new Marek-Smith Teacher Training Center at UMHB; as well as, an overview of the history, focus, and objectives of their one-on-one teacher training program for UMHB students; to serve children ages 3-21 years old with disabilities.  AMAZING presentation … AMAZING opportunities … AMAZING program … AMAZING UMHB!

Future Program Assignments:
