Board Meeting Recap:

– The Club plans to participate in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest.  Keith Cook will take Lead during the 2025-26 school year.

– Texas Lions Camp Visit, June 13th – the Board discussed and approved paying for up to four rooms for Club members and guests from the special needs community administration – to tour the camp & museum; and to attend the camp graduation and dinner.

– Lions Field @ Smith and West 5th could use some updates – Jon Fontenot will get with Parks & Rec to explore options – we’ll have more info at next month’s Board meeting.

– James Harrison will move forward with planning a 2026 Fundraiser Cruise out of Galveston – he has invited Doniece Gray with Your Travel Agent to speak with us on April 17th.

– Lastly, the Board discussed and approved having an “open meeting” once a month on Board Meeting day – without a scheduled speaker – to update what’s going on with everyone and with the Club and with the City – starting with the new club year in July. 

General Announcements:

– STAMPEDE: Please reach out to your Suppliers and Vendors to get sponsors – Level Opportunities: $50, $75, $150, $250, $500, $750. Letters and forms are available to give to prospective sponsor/supporters.

– Reminder: BISD hosting Region 12 Special Olympics, April 17th – Board Meeting day, plus Easter Basket Delivery.  Here is the link for volunteer sign-up. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F4CAAA92AA0F9C25-55890173-special – you may want to volunteer early AM or afternoon – or both.

– Legends on the Chisholm Trail, this Saturday, March 29th, we need to be there to set up at  9:30am (per Parks & Rec), event starts at 10am; meal will be from 11am-1:30pm. At 1:30pm, we can tear-down and leave.

ProgramLeah Hodges – Leadership Belton Class of 2025 – help beautify Miller Heights Park – The Class of 2025 is currently raising money to contribute to the resurfacing of the basketball court, adding dog waste stations around the park, and adding a new park bench.  They are seeking donations and sponsors. Checks can be made out to the Belton Chamber of Commerce. Business:

– International Peace Poster Contest – kit purchased for 2025-2026. Keith Cook will oversee the Club’s participation in the Contest – to be distributed during 2025-2026 school year.

– Texas Lions Camp – June 13th, evening meal opportunity – after discussion about the day of touring camp and museum; and that the other District 2 X3 Clubs are not able to participate; the decision was made to pass on the meal opportunity this year

– Texas Lions Camp Visit – June 13th, arrive by 2pm to tour Camp and Museum with PID Sam Lindsey. It was motioned by James Harrison; 2nd by Larry Berg; for the Club to pay for up to four (4) rooms at roughly $99 each at Y.O. Ranch for the visit.  After discussion – approved by majority.

– Lions Field, Smith Street and W. 5th Avenue – Jon Fontenot reminded the Board that our Club is a sponsor of the Baseball Field; the Park could use some updates; he is asking the Club to expand the sponsorship to an annual or other Support.  First suggestion would be $500 per year; Jon will get with Parks and Rec to explore other options of Support and will provide more information at the April Board Meeting.

– The Board discussed having an “open meeting” once a month on Board Meeting day (without a scheduled speaker) to update what’s going on with everyone and with the Club and with the City – approved – starting in April

– Fundraiser Cruise – James Harrison with get with Your Travel Agent about a 2026 February Fundraiser cruise & will ask her to speak to the Club on April 24th. 

Holding to a Later Date:

– Membership Milestone Awards – Will we be presenting these at Christmas?  The Board agreed that Milestones will be in five (5) year increments; starting at 10 year membership. – John Corsi and Jennah Gliha.  Secretary has provided a Report of each member’s length of membership. – No discussion at this meeting
– Friends of Belton Lions – additional Friend of Belton Lions: Hugh Shine has been approved – plaque has not been made – we need to schedule his lunch visit – we are scheduled to do this January 9th.
– Update on Cadence Bank – CD and other – on hold
– Belton Lions Wall at Heritage Park – James Harrison coordinating
– LEO – Leadership, Experience, and Opportunity
– Tara Cotton (Belton) email to Lions International – daughter needs behind the ear hearing aids for bone conduction – insurance won’t cover the cost – pending family fundraising efforts to supplement any donations – to be updated in 2025.
– Lions on the Leon AAR Meeting – is there an update from Belton City Council about a beer & wine permit in Heritage Park?  The 5K run did not make the Cen-Tex Race Series.

– Reminder: BISD hosting Region 12 Special Olympics, April 17th – Board meeting day, plus Easter Basket Delivery.  We’ll send out the Volunteer link as soon as we get it – you may want to volunteer early AM or afternoon – or both.

ProgramLegends on the Chisholm Trail – Event is Sat., March 29th, 10am-7pm; & Sun., March 30th, 7-10am – we will be taking meal donations from about 11am-1:30pm on Saturday, March 29th.  Setting up the canopy and booth – we will plan for being there 10:30am-2pm. So far signed up: Jon Fontenot, Karen Stagner, Mac Hickerson, Mary Shockley and maybe Danny Dossman.  Then, everyone updated what’s going on with each of them – lots of interesting updates – great meeting.

Program: Lion President Jennah Gliha and Past President Keith Cook have invited Representatives from BISD SpEd Dept. – to talk with us about the April 17th, Region 12, Area Wide Special Olympics Track & Field Meet at Tiger Stadium. Thank you, Misty Norwood and Lauren Marx for speaking to us this Thursday. Misty and Lauren are representatives of the BISD Special Education Department! They’re having the Special Olympics on Thursday April 17th at Tiger Stadium it’s going to be an amazing event! They’re looking for volunteers. They will be posting a link for Volunteer Sign Up; and for Support Donations.
