Board Meeting Recap:
– Our Club is at a +4 for membership this 2023-2024 year. Let’s keep building our Club!
– Membership Milestone Awards –The Board agreed that Milestones will be in five (5) year increments; starting at 10 year membership / they will be awarded a plaque. – Team Leaders are: John Corsi and Jennah Gliha
– Banner Stand and/or Specialty Products – the Board voted and approved to purchase a retractable promo banner & stand for use at outside events. We will also have one for display at our lunches. Team Leaders: Karen Stagner and Danny Dossman
– Specialty Products: We will be looking at Specialty Products to promote the Club at Events. Team Leaders: Jon Fontenot and John Corsi..
– Club Excellence Award for 2023-2024 – Secretary Stagner will apply for this year in July. The Club still needs to “start a new service project from one of the LCI Global Causes” to qualify. Team Leaders for the new Service Project: Jennah Gliha and Bree Vlam. Lion President Keith Cook recommended that the Club keep going “Clean up on the Leon”.
– Donation to Texas Lions Museum and Donation to Texas Lions Foundation – the Board discussed, voted and agreed to pay the optional voluntary donation to each.
– Club Metrics: 1,770 people served / 13 Service Activities Completed, 849 Volunteer Hours, $7,500 Funds Donated, $2,900 Funds Raised – Way to Go Belton Lions !

Old Business:
– Update on Cadence Bank – CD and other – Jon Fontenot – we should have the CD purchase complete by the end of March.
– Charter Night – May 3rd, in the evening. Inviting District and Club Dignitaries; searching for keyboard entertainment; plated dinner; plaques for sponsors; currently have about $1,900 in pledges (and other) to cover expenses.
– Stampede Bike Ride – June 8th – Registration is open. Time to start soliciting for Sponsors.
– Wacky Boat Race – Danny Dossman – Date set for Saturday, October 5, Danny will get with Sam Listi to confirm date availability. Danny and Emily asked Jennah to create a facebook page – Thank you Jennah. Danny says the event should 2-3 times larger than our first one last year. Danny asked new member Nick Valentine if he would join the planning committee. (information relayed by Secretary Stagner from Jon Fontenot) If the May 4th election passes the liquor changes; It may be possible that Park Rules may be able to be changed to allow “Permits”. Danny will look into possibly having beer & wine vendors at the event.
– Banner Stand and/or Specialty Products – Retractable banner handout. Secretary Stagner introduced sign, stand and pricing from Build a Sign. Danny Dossman motioned that we approve roughly $100 to purchase the retractable sign; 2nd by Mike Matthews. Secretary Stagner will create a proposed design for the sign – will be emailed to Board for Approval – prior to purchasing the sign.
– Specialty Products: We found Lions squeeze toys; and the previous BLC giant coloring book (given to Lea and Lorna to look into at the District and State level). Fall Festival give-aways were about 50 of each item. Lion(s) Corsi and Fontenot will continue to look into specialty products.
– Club Excellence Award – Secretary Stagner will apply for this year in July. The Club will need to “start a new service project from one of the LCI Global Causes” to qualify. BLC has already satisfied the other requirements.
New Business:
– Regular vs At-Large Membership status for Gene Ellis & Reese Davis & Lou Griffin – Secretary Stagner will email each of them with their dues reminder and ask if they want to change their status to At-Large; or stay as Regular Members.
– Donation to Texas Lions Museum and Donation to Texas Lions Foundation – after discussion; Mike Matthews motioned to start paying the optional donation(s) to District 2 X3 for both the Museum and the Foundation; 2nd by James Harrison; passed. Secretary Stagner will contact Lea Batey for a District Invoice.

– Lion David Shaw – recently posted on facebook about his health issues regarding speaking and eating – please keep him and his family in your prayers. He will answer texts; but cannot answer calls. We will get him his 10 Year Milestone Chevron Award.
– Lion Reese Davis will be away from the Club for a while – possibly for the next quarter – as he helps John Farwell at work.
– Lion Danny Dossman is having surgery today on his hand and arm to repair some of the nerves – prayers for a speedy recovery.
– We continue to keep Lion Lou Griffin and his family in our prayers for peace and comfort, after the passing of his wife, Joyce.

Program: Lion Karen Stagner invited Chief Gene Ellis; who brought and introduced Deputy Chief Larry Berg. Belton has been blessed to have Chief Ellis. To quote Belton PD who said it best: “Leadership, grace and respect are just a few words that come to mind when we consider Chief Ellis and his nearly 15 years of service in Belton. We are better because of him”. We wish him all the best of everything in retirement and his future endeavors; and are honored that he is a member of our Belton Lions Family. We are excited for Chief Larry Berg and look forward to working with him for years to come.

Old Business:
– Plate Spinning Contest – Jon Fontenot will reach out again to the winner; giving him the option to join us for lunch to get his plate and cutting board; or we can make arrangements to deliver it to him and get photos; or he can stop by the Fire Station to pick them up.
– Stampede Bike Ride – June 8th – Brett Beamesderfer is going by King on the Mountain Bike Shop on Friday to finalize so we can get the website set up and open for Registration; and get the Ride posted on Wheel Brothers.
– Wacky Boat Race – Date will probably be same time of year, maybe same weekend as 2023. Danny Dossman will schedule a Kick-off planning meeting in February. It was suggested that we get Schools to Challenge each other.
– Membership Milestone Awards –The Board agreed that Milestones will be in five (5) year increments; starting at 10 year membership. –John Corsi and Jennah Gliha – still working.
– Banner Stand and/or Specialty Products – Danny Dossman has built a banner stand – we will need to get an information banner for it – to be used at Boat Race, Bike Ride, Fall Festival and other events. Karen Stagner has found 78”x33” retractable banner stand for roughly $200 with case – she will present it at the next Board Meeting. John Corsi suggested that we use the one Danny is making for our lunch meetings. Specialty Products: We found Lions squeeze toys; and the previous BLC giant coloring book (given to Lea and Lorna to look into at the District and State level). Fall Festival give-aways were about 50 of each item. We will revisit this at next meeting.
New Business:
Danny Dossman expressed “Thanks and Appreciation” to the Club Treasurer and Secretary for their time and dedication.
Club Excellence Award – Secretary Stagner will apply for this year.
Club Metrics: 1,770 people served / 13 Service Activities Completed, 849 Volunteer Hours, $7,500 Funds Donated, $2,900 Funds Raised

Program: Lion Jennifer Bailey invited Jennifer Ramirez to give us an update on the Penguin Project. Within one year, the program has tripled. Their next production will be in April 2024 – Finding Nemo Jr. This is an amazing program – an inclusive opportunity, for students of all ages, with special needs – paired with partnering mentor students – to express themselves through theater – acting, singing, dancing – props, costumes and so much more. We are so fortunate that B.I.S.D. has a heart for loving the Special Needs Community. Thank You!
