Program: Crazy Boat Races, by Danny Dossman.  October 7th in conjunction with Picnic in the Park.
Danny gave an overview of the plans and ideas formed at the recent Committee Meeting.  The next Committee Meeting will be Monday, January 30, 6pm, at Danny’s home.  Maybe “Lions on the Leon Boat Race”.  We need someone to design a logo – volunteers?

Update on Flag Program – renewal invoices have been sent – payments are steadily coming in.John Corsi has a t-shirt/polo shirt quote from Patti Powell/BeOne; – blue shirt, gold artwork; order sheet passed around – $12 each – Order will be placed by the end of February.
Marek-Smith Training Center Donor Wall – Secretary Stagner suggested that the BLC sponsor a $2,500 contribution to show support and secure a listing on the Donor Wall. The Board agreed to present a sign-up pledge sheet at the next lunch meeting. Danny Dossman pledged $100.00 and is challenging each member to match his pledge (which he has already matched himself)…or more. It was agreed that the pledges should not be invoiced with dues. Pledge sheet passed around.
Stampede Coordinators – Reese Davis and Brett Beamesderfer On-line Active website is usually set-up in January to open for registrations. Stampede is April 29th 2023.  Committee Meeting scheduled for 2pm Sunday, January 29th at the home of Karen Stagner.

OLD BUSINESS
Moving Eyeglass Collection Box – tabled until February
Marek-Smith Training Center Donor Wall – We will bring this out at the next meeting – taking pledges to reach a goal of $2,500 to get Belton Lions Club Foundation name on the donor wall at the Marek-Smith Training Center at UMHB.
Boat Races – 1st Committee Planning Meeting will be Monday, January 23, 6pm, at the home of Danny Dossman.
Stampede – 1st Committee Planning Meeting will be next week – information will be emailed.
Picnic in the Park – James Harrison has a Committee; Picnic in the Park will be held in conjunction with the Boat Races on October 7th.
Wall of Honor – James Harrison presented a picture proposed location for the Wall. John Corsi motioned to accept the location; Mac Hickerson 2nd; motion passed.  James will proceed with getting the cost to present to the Board.
T-Shirts – John Corsi has secured a price for blue Belton Lions T-Shirts, with gold lettering – for the Club to have a uniform look at events.  Sign up sheet for ordering will be passed starting at the next meeting – T-Shirt price will be $12 each.  Motion by Danny Dossman; 2nd by Karen Stagner; passed. We will order them from BeOne Marketing, Patti Powell.
Banner Stand and Specialty Products – John Corsi will continue to look into this.  Motion to table by John Corsi; 2nd by Danny Dossman; tabled.

NEW BUSINESS:
Meal system at The GIN – Mike Matthews and Danny Dossman will check into pricing and logistics for lunch at Deadfish Grill.
Thursday, February 23rd – the GIN has rented our room out to another organization – we will need to meet elsewhere.
Cinema Gift Cards for Speakers – David Leigh has offered to provide a $20 gift card to Grand Avenue Theater – each week – to include in the Speaker Mug.  Anyone else wanting to include something in the mug is welcome.
Scholarship for Charter School Students – Karen Stagner received an email question about whether our Scholarships were available to Charter School Seniors.  After lengthy discussion, it was determined that the current two Scholarships are specifically for BISD students.
Caps for Cancer – bottle caps (District) – Karen Stagner will get with Linda Vaughn to find out more about the bottle cap program and report at the next meeting.
Projects from General Account vs Foundation Account – Karen Stagner will get with District to get clarification for the Donor Wall; and for the Heritage Park Wall of Honor.

Program: Lion James Harrison invited Lion Dick Chapin, District 2-X3 Representative, Texas Lions Camp to provide an overview and update on this year’s camp (schedule attached).  Did you know that in the History of TLC, over 80,000 campers have been served. The Camp is 515 acres with 51 structures; featuring a fishing pier and boat house, ropes courses, gym, equestrian, infirmary & amphitheatre.  Camp registration opened January 3rd to serve children with physical disabilities, down syndrome, and type 1 diabetes.  Thank you for an informative presentation!

Presentation: President Matthews presented Lion Christa Strang with a Lions International Award Key for strength and membership to our Club.

Program: Lion Reese Davis invited Katie McCray, Exec. Dir., Foster Love Bell County to discuss foster care and what they do to provide for the children of our community who are suddenly out of the system.  There are 1,600 children in the Bell County Foster System.  Thank you for this wonderful program and everything they do at the Foster Love House.

Program: John Corsi has invited Head Basketball Coach Jason Fossett from Belton High School and Assistant Austin Stolte. Coach Fossett invited everyone to the February 7th Basketball game @ 7:00 pm where the 65th reunion of the 1958 Texas State Champs would be introduced to the fans. He also invited us to visit the Wall of Honor located at the high school.

Pictures with Santa was a great success, despite the wind and Cold temperatures.

John Corsi wanted to shout out a special Thank you to Lions that helped with the Santa event. Mike Matthews, Mayor Wayne Carpenter, Sam Listi, John Corsi, Patti Powell and Karen Stagner.

Chief Jon Fontenot is recovering well, keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Danny Dossman announced that he had future announcements, but today was an announcement from the past. On the Day of December 29th, 1845 Texas joined the union and became the 28th state. Owed money back.

Mike Matthews reported there is going to be a change to the Belton Lions Lunch menu with a flip week to week. There was a special request that Chicken Fried Steak remain on the menu.

Board Meeting Recap:
Where do we send the eyeglasses that we collect?  Jon Fontenot – We will send them directly to Texas Lions Eyebank; this will enable our Club to get credit with Texas Lions and LCI.
The Board discussed getting the eyeglass collection box moved from City Hall to a more visible outdoor location – the Library is preferred, if possible and permissible.

Program:  Sam Listi invited retired Roanoke Asst. City Manager / Police Chief Gary Johnson, currently a Team Leader for the Texas Police Chiefs’ Accreditation Program – The Law Enforcement Accreditation Program is a voluntary process where police agencies in Texas prove their compliance with 170 Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices. Belton was the first police agency in Central Texas to be Recognized, and that occurred in 2011. Since that time, Belton has been re-accredited 3 times, with this current effort achieving a fourth accreditation.  Belton has also worked to assist other Texas police agencies, mentoring them in achieving Accreditation and delivering Best Practices. We are fortunate to have the level of professionalism found in the Belton Police Department through the leadership of ACM/Police Chief Gene Ellis.

Where do we send the eyeglasses that we collect?  Jon Fontenot – We will get the Texas Lions Eyebank address and send them directly; this will enable our Club to get credit with Texas Lions and LCI.
The Board discussed getting the eyeglass collection box moved from City Hall to a more visible outdoor location – the Library is preferred, if possible and permissible.  Jon Fontenot will get with Sam Listi.
Will we consider purchasing the equipment to do the eye exams on a regular basis?  … tabled to a future meeting for report from Keith Cook.
Banner Stand and Specialty Products to give away.  John Corsi will get with Patti Powell about pricing for the Banner Stand; and Jon Fontenot will put together ideas and pricing from one of his vendors.  Both will report at the next meeting.
President Mike Matthews will generate a new Program Assignment list for January 2023.
Heritage Park Coordinator – Belton Lions Wall – Picnic in the Park – James Harrison will get with Matt Bates and report next meeting.
Future Boat Race Coordinator – Danny Dossman is assembling a committee and will schedule a planning meeting.
Stampede Coordinators –Reese Davis and Brett Beamesderfer / Active has raised their rate by .25% – On-Line Active website is usually set-up in January to open for registrations.  John Corsi will get with Reese & Brett to get a planning meeting scheduled soon.

NEW BUSINESS
John Corsi will get basic t-shirt/polo shirt quotes from Patti Powell; Karen Stagner will get same from H&H – purple shirt, gold artwork
Marek-Smith Training Center Donor Wall – Secretary Stagner suggested that the BLC sponsor a $2,500 contribution to show support and secure a listing on the Donor Wall. The Board agreed to present a sign-up pledge sheet at the next lunch meeting.  Danny Dossman pledged $100.00 and is challenging each member to match his pledge … or more.  It was agreed that the pledges should not be invoiced with dues.
Flag Program – Renewal Invoicing will begin in January

          Belton Lion Business Cards – keep handing out those cards – inviting prospective new members. Lion Corsi suggested that we have a prize drawing @ Charter Night for whoever invites (using the cards) the most prospective new members.
BLC Charter Celebration in 2023 will be during our regular lunch timeline – we will re-evaluate after the Xmas meeting.
BLC Ball Caps – $20 each / BLC Vests – $45 each

Future Boat Races – Secretary Stagner shared information from Matt Bates that the Heritage Park and Leon River project should be ready for the Club to schedule and start planning the Boat Races for late 2022.  The Board of Directors will discuss at their meeting today.

Program:  On behalf of Lion Gene Ellis, Lion Sam Listi introduced Kelly Boggs, Gift Officer, UMHB along with Dr. Kris Ward – Dr. Ward provided an exciting and descriptive overall presentation of the new Marek-Smith Teacher Training Center at UMHB; as well as, an overview of the history, focus, and objectives of their one-on-one teacher training program for UMHB students; to serve children ages 3-21 years old with disabilities.  AMAZING presentation … AMAZING opportunities … AMAZING program … AMAZING UMHB!

December 8 – Sam Listi – has invited retired Roanoke Asst. City Manager / Police Chief Gary Johnson, currently a Team Leader for the Texas Police Chiefs’ Accreditation Program – he will present a program on Belton’s re-accreditation process.
