Membership Report – Karen Stagner – Invoices for 1st Quarter 2023-2024 have been issued.

Treasurer Report – Held over to next Board Meeting

Old Business:

– CD at Cadence Bank – hold over to next Board Meeting

– LCI Club Excellence Award – 1st Vice District Governor is checking into it.  We will also apply for the Humanitarian Award for 2023-2024.

– Membership Milestones –The Board agreed that Milestones will be in five (5) year increments; starting at 10 year membership.  Several members will explore options for Milestone awards – will be updated at next Board Meeting.

– Partnering with Temple-Belton Ladies Lions for eyeglasses and exams through their member connection for discounted costs. Karen will get Lea Batey, Temple-Belton Ladies Lions to speak at the November 9th meeting to give us all of the information.
10/19 Update: Lea Batey will make the presentation on 11/9.

– November Board Meeting will be on November 9th, 2nd week of the month, motioned by James, 2nd by Mark; passed.

– District Cabinet Meetings – October 28, Salado / January 27, McGregor / April 26-27, Waco – attending will be Karen Stagner, Mark Bellomy, Mac Hickerson, Keith Cook. Karen has made reservations – $20 pp.

New Business: 

– Charter Night – James Harrison – 85th Anniversary is April 21st ; celebration will be April 18th or April 25th if it’s a lunchtime meeting.  To schedule the Charter Night in the evening, James and Mark will solicit a sponsor for $2,500. If a sponsor is secured, we will have the Charter Night Celebration on a Friday night; and we will not have a lunch meeting that week.  We should get a copy of the evening buffet menus with pricing from Dead Fish.

– The Club Christmas Party will be held on Thursday, December 14th during lunch – we will have a buffet meal.
This will be the last meeting for the 2023 year. The Club will not have a meeting on the 21st or the 28th.  Karen will email the lunch buffet menus to the Board.

Club Metrics: 1,209 people served / 7 Service Activities Completed, 580 Volunteer Hours, $7,500 Funds Donated, $900 Funds Raised  (does not include Lions on the Leon funds raised) 

Holding to a Later Date:

– David Shaw – Deployment bags are requested for our Adopted Unit – tabled until Lion Shaw is able to provide details.

– Banner Stand and Specialty Products –this was tabled at the January Board Meeting – left tabled.

– Belton Lions Wall at Heritage Park – James Harrison coordinating – plans are progressing.  Tabled until after Picnic in the Park.

Program:  Keith Cook has invited Rucker Preston, Promise House to give us an update on the Families that have graduated; their services to empower families experiencing homelessness to achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response.  Soon to come: Promise Homes.  Service Opportunity – providing a meal to Promise House.  Thank You!

– Zone Meeting is tonight, 6pm, Gober Party House – hosted by Temple Founder Club.  Keith, nor Karen can attend.  Who can go to represent our Club.- no response
– Last week, Bobby Bishoff told us of an MIA local Veteran who died in 1943 has finally been identified and is coming home.  If you are interested in attending, his Service is planned for Saturday, October 21, 2pm at Dossman Funeral Home with burial in North Belton Cemetery.
– A few of our long standing members may remember Lion Dr. John (Jack) Meredith who passed away over the weekend at the age of 85.  His memorial service will be held at 1pm, Sunday at Belton Church of Christ.
– Update on our Fundraiser Cruise – October 10 was the balance due date. (pending update from James Harrison)
– Danny Dossman had his wrist repair surgery today – let’s send him wishes for a speedy recovery.

Program:  Thank you Lion Keith Cook for inviting First Vice District Governor, Lion Renee Lamson (Clifton Lions Club) with Texas District 2 x3. It was so heart warming to hear all the selfless acts and differences Lions make around the world

– Stampede Date – May 4th has been suggested. Date okay with PD. Same date as the evening UMHB Graduation.  Board agreed to keep the May 4th date.

– HOCTIL Fall Festival – request for budget to purchase give-aways and candy – John Corsi made motion to purchase the candy from the Activity Account; 2nd by Danny Dossman; passed – probably about $60. – planning for about 300 kids.  FD will supply coloring books.

– Temple/Belton Ladies Lions has a new member connected with an eyeglass company; and can get exams and glasses for ½ of what we’ve been paying.  President Cook will get with Lea Batey.

Bacon, Blues & Brews Plate Spinning Contest, Saturday, September 30th, Downtown Belton – selling People’s Choice Tickets – Food Truck Competition from 11am-1pm.  Jon Fontenot will work the Plate Spinning table – keeping names and timings. Winner will receive autographed plate and lunch with the Belton Lions. Called to Order at 1:00pm

President Keith Cook updated the Board on the Belton Senior Resident needing assistance getting eyeglasses from Belton Vision.  He has insurance, but they have a cap.  He is asking the Club to help with up to $75.00 to get the glasses he wants.  Motion made by Danny Dossman; 2nd by James Harrison; voted to provide up to $75.00 – Keith Cook will get with Belton Vision to make the arrangements.

Belton Journal readers voted Belton Lions Club as Best Service Organization.  Pricing for a Thank you ad to run September 28th and October 5th.  John Corsi motioned to purchase the $110 ad; 2nd by James Harrison; after discussion; voted to purchase the $110 ad.

Not Board Business – Wacky Boat Race Committee is part of the Board.  100% Cotton t-shirts are the price we approved at the last committee meeting.  Moisture wicking shirts would be $3.75 each addl.  The Committee members present made the decision to go with a tri-blend or 50/50 at the cotton shirt original price approved.

Lions on the Leon Picnic in the Park & Wacky Boat Race – update from Monday’s Committee Meeting – Danny Dossman – plans are progressing – we have vendors, food trucks, entertainment, games, boats and sponsors.

Bell County Senior Expo – September 26th – 8am-1pm.  John Corsi, Jennah Gliha, Keith Cook, Cri Childs, Christa Strang, Mark Bellomy & Karen Stagner have signed up so far. Wear your BLC t-shirt. Instructions have been emailed to each Volunteer.

Bacon, Blues & Brews Plate Spinning Contest, Saturday, September 30th, Downtown Belton – make plans to help sell People’s Choice Tickets – sign-up sheet passing around. Food Truck Competition is from 11am-1pm.  Signed up so far: Cri Childs, Jon Fontenot, Mike Matthews, Danny Dossman, Karen Stagner, Mac Hickerson, Jennah Gliha, David Tuma, Reese Davis, Keith Cook, Wayne Carpenter, Mack Latimer.

BISD Mentor Program for Project HEARTBEAT.  Please consider being a mentor for a BISD student in a homeless situation.  See Lion President Keith Cook if you are interested.

BISD Lake Belton Broncos Thursday Night Game will be live on ESPN2.  Let’s all watch; or – be there -and cheer them on.

Christa Strang is cancer free and her new nickname is “semi-colon”.  Yea and WooHoo!

The Club has had an email request through LCI from a family for eyeglass assistance for an elderly adult.  After discussion, President Cook is going to call the family and get more information; update at the next meeting.

Lions on the Leon Picnic in the Park & Wacky Boat Race – Capt. D and crew are filming PSA (“Pirate” Service Announcements). Watch Facebook for videos.  On-Site Sign up sheet passed: Danny Dossman, Karen Stagner, Jon Fontenot, Mike Matthews, Jennah Gliha, Wayne Carpenter, Mac Hickerson, Keith Cook, Christa Strang, Gene & Carrie Ellis have signed up so far.  Next Committee Meeting will be Monday, September 11, 6pm, Danny’s house.

Program: Thank you, Lion James Harrison for inviting Nancy Bonner, Ph.D.,PMP with University of Mary Hardin–Baylor. It was a treat to hear about all the upcoming events and new developments going on at UMHB – preparing Students for Leadership and Service. They have students that range in age from 15 to 71; they have 6 exchange students from Germany; and they now have online degrees. Thank you! #WeServe
