Announcements

Stampede – Brett Beamesderfer reported, with online, mail-in and sponsor registrations, we now have 61 riders.  Diamond G Ranch became a sponsor today. Reese Davis reported that we now have $4,600 in sponsorships. Secretary Stagner urged all “member sponsors” to submit rider paperwork before April 20th to avoid confusion at on-site registration.  Event T-Shirts will be ordered on Monday. Information on the Ride has been submitted for the District Newsletter.  Also, information for “what happening”, B-Town bulletin, etc. has been submitted to Temple Telegram, Belton Journal and Killeen Daily Herald.  Official Press Release and purchased ad space is scheduled for Thursday, April 20th. 

Picnic in the Park, October 7th – The next meeting will be on-site at Heritage Park.  Anyone wanting to attend, please be at the Lions Pavilion, Tuesday, April 11th at 1:00pm.

Lions on the Leon Wacky Boat Race, October 7th – Danny Dossman – We are in need of LARGE cardboard boxes – to start building our boat. The next meeting will be Monday, April 10th, 6:00pm at the home of Danny Dossman.  Information on the Wacky Boat Race has been submitted for the District Newsletter.  Danny reported that we have commitments for 8-9 boat entries already.

Marek-Smith Training Center Donor Wall – Two (2) member pledges are remaining unpaid – Once pledges have been paid, Kelly Boggs will come to lunch; pick up the check & make the arrangements to have “Belton Lions Club Foundation” listed on the Donor Wall of the building at UMHB.

HOCTIL families – five (5) Easter Food Baskets – Assembly and Delivery Today – Thank you to everyone who contributed and delivered; and Thank you to David Shaw for the Ayr Balloons! (see pictures)

Program: – Margaret Chadwick, Eldred’s Nursery provided a brief history and an update on their training & placement services transitioning youth with special needs and disabilities into our community workplaces. Master Gardeners have partnered with Eldred’s – teaching and have set up rain barrels for irrigation.  They are working on a plan for Day Habilitation; and Respite Care for providers and family.  Eldred’s trainees will be assisting Lion Lou Griffin with the hot dogs at the Stampede on the Chisholm Trail 2023.  Always a great and interesting program. Board Meeting Recap:
Name Badges have been ordered for all new members.
Tail Twister Danny Dossman will start 50/50’s and Raffles
100 new Heavy Duty USA Flags have been ordered and have arrived.
Initial membership application fee raised from $35 to $50 to cover badge expense.

Update from March 29th STAMPEDE Committee Meeting.
Rest Stops: #1 KOM Cyclery; # 2 healthmarkets; # 3 redbox+ of Central Texas; # 4 CenTex Automotive; # 5 Hickerson Family.
Free Hot Dogs – post ride: Lou Griffin will be Lion Team Leader – assisted by either HOCTIL or Eldred’s Nursery children with special needs.
Snow Cones: KOM Christina’s daughter will be Team Leader for BLC – assisted by Belton High School Special Needs Department students.  This will be a fundraiser & all proceeds will benefit BHS Dept.
STRAVA interactive maps have been created by KOM and will be given to the registered riders.  Ride routes have changed slightly and have been approved. Photos of the routes are attached to this recap.
Event T-Shirt order deadline is Wednesday, April 5th – t-shirt order will be placed during week of 4/10.
Sponsors wishing to receive all benefits, including event t-shirts must also be in by April 5th.
Patti Powell has volunteered to help Reese Davis contacting and following up on Sponsors.
Reese Davis has ordered 100 Welcome Bags from the Belton Chamber of Commerce.
Patti Powell will be Team Leader for on-site Registration; Veronica Logan will be Event T-Shirt on-site coordination.  Registration recap and planning meeting will be held during week of April 17th.
KOM will be providing SAG wagon; and will be providing the drink powder for the rest stop(s) igloo coolers.
Routes will be marked on Thursday; then rechecked on Friday – John Wiist, KOM, has volunteered to help mark route.
Reese Davis will coordinate with Sam Listi for tables, chairs, trash cans, restrooms, etc.
Redbox+ Christa Strang will be providing three (3) sanitation station/dumpsters for the ride this year.
Newspaper ads and
are scheduled for Thursday, April 20th.

Program: – Keith Cook – Dr. Stephanie Ferguson, BISD Director of PK-12 Career Readiness – an update on all of BISD Career Technical Education (CTE) programs.  Challenge ~ Prepare ~ Empower. As students prepare for the workforce of tomorrow, CTE teachers prepare them to become college and career-ready by offering career exploration, employability, technical, and job-specific training in specific career clusters. In the past three years, more than 300 students have demonstrated skills at district, regional, state and national CTSO competitions.  Great Program!  Thank You!

– Belton Lions Wall at Heritage Park – James Harrison coordinating – plans are progressing.  Tabled until after Picnic in the Park.

– General Account – to note from financial presentation meeting – other expenditures are P O Box, Chamber Membership, stamps, envelopes, ink, office supplies not directly expensed to our fundraisers.  Danny Dossman presented an idea to promote prompt Dues payment – possibly adding a $25 fee if not paid promptly.  Jon Fontenot suggested that he get with the Bank about “auto drafting” availability.

New Business: 

– Name Badges – $14.95 each, plus shipping – authorize roughly 10 new badges from General Account – after discussion, Danny Dossman motioned that the Club raise the $35.00 new member processing fee to $50.00 in order to cover the membership badge & order the needed 9-10 badges; 2nd by John Corsi; approved.  Badges will be ordered each quarter.

– Start 50/50 and Raffles within membership at meetings; discussion & authorize.  After a brief discussion, the Board authorized Tail Twister Danny Dossman to plan and coordinate 50/50 and Raffles within the Club; with proceeds directed to the General Account.

– USA Flag Program – Karen Stagner – new flag order: 50 or 100 – $5.61 each – authorize. After a brief discussion, Veronica Logan motioned to purchase 100 new flags; 2nd by John Corsi; approved.

– Club T-Shirts – During a discussion concerning the new Club T-Shirts, it was determined that the t-shirts cost the club a base price of $10.00; and the members are paying a base price of $12.00 – therefore, the t-shirt sales can be considered a Club fundraiser – classified under the Activity Account. Motioned by Jon Fontenot; 2nd by James Harrison; approved.

Holding to a Later Date:

– Moving Eyeglass Collection Box – this was tabled at the January Board Meeting – left tabled.

Program: Treasurer Jon Fontenot presented the current State of Financial – General Fund Only – with a handout of the Powerpoint (attached).  As of April 1st, the Club needs to raise the quarterly dues to $180.00. During the discussion, a question was asked about the difference between Regular Member, Associate Member and Affiliate Member – so, a .pdf of the LCI membership level definitions is attached also.  Thank you Jon Fontenot for a thorough and easy to understand explanation of our General Fund Income & Expenses – for the healthy future of our Club.

Recap from the Board of Directors Meeting, Thurs., Feb. 26

1.  The Board approved for James Harrison to move forward with planning a 2024 Fundraiser Cruise on Carnival Jubilee, January 13-20, 2024.

Program: Christa Strang invited the Honorable Ted Duffield to speak to the Club about SCOFFLAW. Judge Duffield provided an informative presentation explaining SCOFFLAW.  The law allows a freeze on vehicle registrations of those who owe the county/city/toll authority a fine or fee that is past due.  Great Presentation!  Thank You!

85th Anniversary of the Belton Lions Club – James Harrison is planning a Celebration. James explained that Belton Lions Club first met in 1938; then Chartered in 1939.

1.  The Board approved for James Harrison to move forward with planning a 2024 Fundraiser Cruise.
2.  The Board discussed dues, lunch and non-fundraiser income/expenses – Jon Fontenot will provide the Club with a full breakdown at a near future lunch meeting and announce the results.

NOTE:  Called BOARD Meeting was held on Thursday, February 9th; regarding relocating Lions Lunch to Deadfish Grill – starting February 23rd.  A quorum was present. President Mike Matthews reported that all of our questions have been answered; and that Deadfish Grill has storage for our Flags, Banners & Stands.  Motioned to relocate by James Harrison; 2nd by Jon Fontenot; voted to approve.

  January Activity Account: $28,794.84

– Dues and Lunch Pricing – Jon Fontenot – Dues, lunch and non-fundraiser expenses come from General Account. Average 13 weeks per quarter / $15 per week for lunch = $195. Plus, District Dues and LCI Dues twice per year.  Our current dues are $150 per quarter. The Club also pays for Speaker lunches and District Officer Guest lunches.  We have 29 regular members; and average 20-22 members per week at lunch. After a lengthy discussion, Danny Dossman made motion to raise quarterly dues to $180; 2nd by Mac Hickerson; passed. April 1st billing will be $180.00 per quarter.  Jon Fontenot will provide the Club with a full breakdown at a near future lunch meeting; and will announce the increase.

– USA Flag Program – Karen Stagner – update on payments – just under 50% paid.  Karen questioned whether the Board wanted her to email the “reminder”; or postal mail.  After discussion, it was decided to mail the invoices.

– Belton Lions Wall at Heritage Park – James Harrison coordinating – plans are progressing.

– Moving Eyeglass Collection Box – this was tabled at the January Board Meeting – left tabled.

– Banner Stand and Specialty products – John Corsi and Jon Fontenot – this was tabled at the January Board Meeting – left tabled.

New Business:

– James Harrison announced that he would like to plan a 2024 Benefit Cruise, coordinating with Your Travel Agent – Belton.  The cruise would be of no cost to the Club – Carnival matches a contribution built into the individual reservation for the cruise.  Cruise would also include transportation to and from Galveston from Belton.

Motion to move forward with the cruise plans by Jon Fontenot; 2nd by Karen Stagner; passed.

– James Harrison would like to have Business Cards to use as he solicits sponsors for Picnic in the Park.  Karen Stagner will make the cards for him.

Program

Stampede – Brett Beamesderfer and Reese Davis – Registration is open; David Shaw and Brett Beamesderfer are working on the route and will be meeting with City Officials soon to approve the route; handouts of Save the Date with QR code and Sponsor Forms were distributed. Karen Stagner will send email and Flyer to past riders.  Reese Davis is contacting past sponsors – we have sponsor pledges already.  Special Needs Community organizations will be present selling hot dogs and snow cones – coordinating with King on the Mountain Cyclery.

Picnic in the Park – James Harrison – update from 1st Committee Meeting – James will be working on sponsors for: Event Sponsor; Entertainment Sponsor; Car or Bike Show Sponsor.  Temple-Belton Lady Lions will be there doing Vision Screening.  They are planning for Food Trucks at $250 per space; and a Fish Fry from 4-6 in the evening.  Their next meeting will be March 10th at the Chamber.

Lions on the Leon Wacky Boat Race – update from 3rd Committee Meeting- Danny Dossman updated with the Logo and plans for a promo float in the Belton 4th of July Parade.  Handout of Save the Date flyer and Wacky Boat pictures.  Corrugated Category will have some basic rules; Wacky Category must be wacky – no traditional watercraft.  Heats in categories, then final eliminations; People’s Choice; President’s Award; Prizes will be trophies. Planning for no one under 8 to participate – anyone under 16 must be accompanied by parent – everyone signs waiver. Next planning meeting will be March 13th, 6pm, Danny’s home.
