General Business and Announcements

– BOARD Meeting after lunch today.

– BLC Fundraiser Cruise – March 1-8, 2026 from Galveston onboard the Regal Princess – with stops in Cozumel, Costa Maya, and Roatan – includes all port charges, round trip transportation to the pier in Galveston and a breakfast on the charter bus.  Your Travel Agent, 254-939-0731, yourtravelagent@hot.rr.com
– Gatesville Fire Ant Tour Bike Ride – update from Jon – great & very organized event. Next year for Stampede, we’ll be adding tire pumps, first-aid kits and peanut butter cookies to the Rest Areas.
– Texas Lions Camp Visit & Tour – update from Keith & Jennah – amazing experience. Karen will be putting together a power-point slide show about the camp for a future meeting.
– Belton 4^th of July Parade (Friday, July 4^th, 9am). We WILL have an entry.  Application and Waiver have been submitted.  Safety Meeting, Saturday, June 21^st. We will need help getting the Pearl out of storage on July 1^st; and getting it ready for the Parade.
– Back to School with God, Saturday, July 19^th, 9am-Noon, Yettie Polk Park – Mark Your Calendar – sign up sheet next week. Lea Batey will coordinate eye-screeners and equipment – Deb Swift-Alejandro (new President for Temple Founder Lions) also has eye-screeners & volunteered to help. Belton PD for Command Vehicle?  Maybe Scouts to help wrap hot dogs.
– H-E-B Grant Announcement – Thank you to H-E-B for the partnership grant of $2,500 to help with our events throughout the remainder of the year. #HEB Helping

Program: Todd Schiller presented our William Long and Halley Cox Memorial Scholarships (out of 16 applicants) to Hunter Hutchins & Rocio Avila – each received a $1,000 scholarship check; then read their essay and shared their future plans. Congratulations!  Our Special Surprise Guest helped with the Presentations!

Prior to closing the meeting: Incoming President Lion Jon Fontenot made two (2) special presentations:
Inviting Outgoing President Jennah Gliha to remain at the podium – on behalf of the Club, he Thanked
Jennah for her leadership and presented her with a distinctive plaque commemorating 2024-2025!
Lion Fontenot, then explained the criteria and process of selecting a LION of the YEAR by vote from past     Lions of the Year, then invited Lion Keith Cook to the podium to accept the appointment and plaque for his long dedication to the Club & Service at every Club activity. Congratulations Lion Jennah and Lion Keith!

– Raymond James/Gunter Account – Information has been sent – Jennah and Karen – almost complete

– LEO Club – Discussion about joining Temple Breakfast Lions for “Temple Belton LEO Club”. It was motioned, discussed and approved to present this partnership proposal to the membership at the next lunch meeting.

– Captain “D” 5K Dash for Sight – proposed run/walk map (handout) – there are City concerns about intersections. JoJo Guzman (a weekly 5K participant) will run/walk the route this Sunday and let us know her thoughts and advice.

– Lions on the Leon Boat Race – simplifying RULES – several people interested in the Boat Race have expressed that the Rules are a bit confusing and overwhelming.  Chris and Jennah will attempt to simplify the Rules this weekend and will report back.

– Igloo, RTEC, or YETI ice chests – Jon Fontenot motioned to purchase four (4) rolling medium size heavy duty ice chests to use on Back to School with God, Lions on the Leon, Stampede and other BLC events; 2^nd by Larry Berg. After discussion, the purchase was approved. Jon will send Karen the info for purchase.

– Our Club will be selling the People’s Choice tickets and our Plate Spinning Contest at Belton, Bacon, Blues and Brews, September 27^th 

Program: Lisle Meeker will present about a County LEO Club – PDG Lisle presented an overview of LEO clubs; and an opportunity for our Club to partner with Temple Breakfast Lions supporting an existing LEO Club. LEO stands for Leadership, Experience, Opportunity. The LEOs chartered in 2017 and the charter is current. The Club meets quarterly – interim virtual meetings – they are active for programs & events monthly – currently working with Dr. Ponder (BSW) – Camp diabetes Director; and Doree Collins, Un-included & Cultural Academy Director. We would need a BLC member to volunteer to work with Dr. Ponder, Doree Collins and the LEOs. Charter renewal and other costs are paid by the Temple Breakfast Lions Club.  Their FB page is Temple LEO Club; and they are not opposed to change that to Temple-Belton LEO Club. The current members are from Temple, Cameron, Rockdale, etc.; we could hopefully add members from Nolanville, HH, Academy, Bartlett, Salado, etc.  Having a LEO club affiliated with BLC could possibly help with adding to and/or supplementing our events.  Great Presentation and Opportunity!  Thank You!

– Flag Program – We’re starting a door-knocking drive to increase participation – working with HOAs & starting with Dawson Ranch.  Sign-up sheet will be passed soon.
– Eyeglass Program – The Board voted to increase our annual eyeglass budget to $1,000 per year.
– Service Project Report –

BLC BOARD Meeting Recap – May 29th, 2025 (delayed from May 15th)

Membership Report – Karen Stagner – $955 in unpaid dues – ($375 are bi-annual)

Treasurer Report –

   General Account – $ 10,302.97

Business:

– Flag Program – Two participants paid and Danny replaced their flags.  Five responded to the email that they would pay; and Danny left ring messages for two – if no payment by mid June, their flags will be picked up. Over the last 2 years, we have lost over 50 participants (moved, etc.) – we will contact HOAs in targeted areas – starting with Dawson Ranch.  Jennah will get with TABA contacts to get HOA contacts so we can set a Saturday morning to go door-knocking with information about Belton Lions; what we do in the Community; and why we have projects and activities to fund our community service and activities.

  Chris is going to check with an associate about cutting 4” metal round discs; Karen is going to get with Toby for 4” vinyl stickers to apply to the discs – it was suggested that each flag pole (all 114 existing; plus new) have this personalization screwed to the pole.

– Eyeglasses / America’s Best # 5037 – Handout – consider increasing our Budget.  After much discussion, the Board agreed to increase the eyeglass budget to $1,000 per year.  Motioned by Karen; 2^nd by Mike; passed.

– Service and Project Report – LCI year, July 1, 2024 thru June 30, 2025 – Year to Date – Handout

– H-E-B Grant – Karen will meet with Amy Stephens Flores to fill out the application next week.

– Sponsorships for Back to School with God, STAMPEDE and LIONS on the LEON – we might think about suggesting Board Member suggestions to go out and visit with community businesses (attached) about Matching Funds and/or partnering Sponsorships for our major events. Karen has compiled a list; Chris will check with O’Reillys; Danny will get with David Leigh.

– Raymond James/Gunter Account – Information has been sent – Jennah and Karen need to go to the office to finish.

– LEO Club – Lisle Meeker wants to come talk to us about taking on an existing LEO Club – not just Belton, includes Bell and surrounding Counties. They already have members and could be a helping volunteer force for our events.  Lisle will be our speaker on this topic on June 12^th.

– BLC Mascot – do we want to get a Mascot costume? (handout) After Discussion, Mike Matthews motioned that we purchase the $500 costume; 2^nd by Todd Schiller; passed.  Karen will get it ordered.

– Bass Tournament Sponsorship – Billy Conway asked if the Club would sponsor ($250) the Bass Tournament this year.  After discussion and taking into account that we just approved a $500 increase in eyeglasses; and the mascot costume; we will unfortunately not be able to sponsor this year. 

Holding to a Later Date:

– Lions Field, Smith Street and W. 5^th Avenue – Jon Fontenot reminded the Board that our Club is a sponsor of the Baseball Field; the Park could use some updates; he is asking the Club to expand the sponsorship to an annual or other Support.  First suggestion would be $500 per year; Jon will get with Parks and Rec to explore other options of Support and will provide more information.  This item will be tabled until Jon has met with Parks & Rec.

– Membership Milestone Awards – Will we be presenting these at Christmas?  The Board agreed that Milestones will be in five (5) year increments; starting at 10 year membership. – John Corsi and Jennah Gliha.  Secretary has provided a Report of each member’s length of membership. – No discussion at this meeting

– Update on Cadence Bank – CD and other – on hold
– Belton Lions Wall at Heritage Park – James Harrison coordinating
– LEO – Leadership, Experience, and Opportunity

– Tara Cotton (Belton) email to Lions International – daughter needs behind the ear hearing aids for bone conduction – insurance won’t cover the cost – pending family fundraising efforts to supplement any donations – to be updated in 2025.

– Lions on the Leon AAR Meeting – is there an update from Belton City Council about a beer & wine permit in Heritage Park?  The 5K run did not make the Cen-Tex Race Series.

Fundraiser Cruise – The Board agreed on March 1-8, 2026 visiting ports of Cozumel, Costa Maya and Roatan; 7 night Caribbean Cruise from Galveston onboard the Regal Princess. Update from James.

The Club plans to participate in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Keith Cook will take the lead during the 2025-26 school year.

Lions Field @Smith and West 5^th could use some updates. Jon Fontenot will get Parks & Rec to explore options – we’ll have more info at next months Board meeting.

The William Long and Halley Cox Memorial Scholarship applications are in. Todd Schiller and Keith Cook will be reviewing them soon. Thank you!

Lions on the Leon – 2025 will be entirely riverside. Danny is working on the 5K route through the neighborhood (Belton Parks & Rec is working with us). The 5K route will be a combination of trail and streets.
