General Business and Announcements

– BOARD Meeting after lunch today.

– BLC Fundraiser Cruise – March 1-8, 2026 from Galveston onboard the Regal Princess – with stops in Cozumel, Costa Maya, and Roatan – includes all port charges, round trip transportation to the pier in Galveston and a breakfast on the charter bus.  Your Travel Agent, 254-939-0731, yourtravelagent@hot.rr.com
– Gatesville Fire Ant Tour Bike Ride – update from Jon – great & very organized event. Next year for Stampede, we’ll be adding tire pumps, first-aid kits and peanut butter cookies to the Rest Areas.
– Texas Lions Camp Visit & Tour – update from Keith & Jennah – amazing experience. Karen will be putting together a power-point slide show about the camp for a future meeting.
– Belton 4th of July Parade (Friday, July 4th, 9am). 
We WILL have an entry.  Application and Waiver have been submitted.  Safety Meeting, Saturday, June 21st. We will need help getting the Pearl out of storage on July 1st; and getting it ready for the Parade.
– Back to School with God, Saturday, July 19th, 9am-Noon, Yettie Polk Park – Mark Your Calendar – sign up sheet next week. Lea Batey will coordinate eye-screeners and equipment – Deb Swift-Alejandro (new President for Temple Founder Lions) also has eye-screeners & volunteered to help. Belton PD for Command Vehicle?  Maybe Scouts to help wrap hot dogs.
– H-E-B Grant Announcement – Thank you to H-E-B for the partnership grant of $2,500 to help with our events throughout the remainder of the year. #HEB Helping

Installation of our 2025-2026 BLC Officers – Thank you to Lion Sam Listi for delivering the Oath; and Thank you New Officers for volunteering to SERVE!

Program: Todd Schiller presented our William Long and Halley Cox Memorial Scholarships (out of 16 applicants) to Hunter Hutchins & Rocio Avila – each received a $1,000 scholarship check; then read their essay and shared their future plans. Congratulations!  Our Special Surprise Guest helped with the Presentations!

Prior to closing the meeting: Incoming President Lion Jon Fontenot made two (2) special presentations:
Inviting Outgoing President Jennah Gliha to remain at the podium – on behalf of the Club, he Thanked
Jennah for her leadership and presented her with a distinctive plaque commemorating 2024-2025!
Lion Fontenot, then explained the criteria and process of selecting a LION of the YEAR by vote from past     Lions of the Year, then invited Lion Keith Cook to the podium to accept the appointment and plaque for his long dedication to the Club & Service at every Club activity. Congratulations Lion Jennah and Lion Keith!

– Bell County Senior Expo, Tuesday, Sept. 23, 8am-1pm, Cadence Bank Center – sign-up sheet soon
– Our Club will be selling the People’s Choice tickets and our Plate Spinning Contest at Belton, Bacon, Blues and Brews, September 27
– Captain “D” Dash for Sight 5K Run/Walk, October 4th – combination of Trail and Streets (across the Park and through the neighborhood).  Preliminary Map Layout submitted to Parks and Rec. Once approved, we will kick-start our promo
– October 10th & 11thBelton Polka on the Square, Save the Date – at this time, we’re unaware if we will be serving or helping.
– October 11 & 12, Rescue Magazine Pet Adoption Extravaganza, 10am-5pm – Save the Date – possibly lending the Black Pearl again.
– DATE TBD, 2-4pm, CTCS, 14th Annual Fall Festival for families of children with special needs
– November 20th – Thanksgiving Basket Delivery
– December 18th, (set up at 1pm), 5-8pm, Harris Center, Pictures with Santa for families of children with special needs.
– Lions Field @Smith and West 5th could use some updates. Jon Fontenot will get Parks & Rec to explore options – tabled until we have more information.
– The Club plans to participate in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Keith Cook will take the lead during the 2025-26 school year.
