BLC JOINT BOARD Meeting Recap – June 19th, 2025
Call to Order by Lion President Jennah Gliha
Members Present: Jennah Gliha, Mike Matthews, Keith Cook, Jon Fontenot, Todd Schiller, Larry Berg, Karen Stagner, David Shaw
Guests: Chris Gregg
Absent: Danny Dossman, John Corsi, James Harrison
Membership Report – Karen Stagner – $590 in unpaid dues – ($375 are bi-annual)
  Total Active Members – 37 – dues handout
            Mark Bellomy emails have been returned – any updates – last FB post was Dec. 2024
            Clint Bailey emails have been returned – any updates
            Cree Childs asked to be changed to At-Large until he finishes his current business project
            Jennifer Bailey dropped – she is transferring to Round Rock
Treasurer Report –
   General Account – $ 9,969.96
   Foundation Account – $ 38,450.27

Business:

– Flag Program – Handout – we lost 18 participants so far in 2025 (moved, etc.)
            Update from Jennah on HOAs – Jennah is getting contacts.
            We need apply with City of Belton to get a “solicitor permit” for block walking
            Update from Chris about round metal/plastic discs – $225 per sheet cut / 200 4” circles.
            Update from Karen about 4” vinyl stickers to apply to the discs – $1.35 each from Toby –
                Jon will send Karen contact that FD uses to get another price quote.
            Proposed FB post for Flag Program – plan to post this weekend – (handout)

– Sponsorships to supplement our fundraising – area businesses – which ones offer matching grants?             Businesses handout – requesting Board members look over and let Karen know which to contact.

– Raymond James/Gunter Account – Information has been sent – Jennah and Karen – almost complete

– LEO Club – Discussion about joining Temple Breakfast Lions for “Temple Belton LEO Club”. It was motioned, discussed and approved to present this partnership proposal to the membership at the next lunch meeting.

– Captain “D” 5K Dash for Sight – proposed run/walk map (handout) – there are City concerns about intersections. JoJo Guzman (a weekly 5K participant) will run/walk the route this Sunday and let us know her thoughts and advice.

– Lions on the Leon Boat Race – simplifying RULES – several people interested in the Boat Race have expressed that the Rules are a bit confusing and overwhelming.  Chris and Jennah will attempt to simplify the Rules this weekend and will report back.

– Igloo, RTEC, or YETI ice chests – Jon Fontenot motioned to purchase four (4) rolling medium size heavy duty ice chests to use on Back to School with God, Lions on the Leon, Stampede and other BLC events; 2nd by Larry Berg. After discussion, the purchase was approved. Jon will send Karen the info for purchase.

– H-E-B Grant – the Club has received five (5) $500 gift cards from H-E-B Community Outreach Grants to support our activities through the end of the 2025 year; they will partner with us and be active in each of the events. (the amounts are fairly flexible)

– MD 2-X3 Cabinet Meeting, Sat., Aug. 9th, 7:45a-1p, Harris Center, hosted by Temple Belton Ladies Lions
– Bell County Senior Expo, Tuesday, Sept. 23, 8am-1pm, Cadence Bank Center – sign-up sheet soon
– Belton, Bacon, Blues and Brews, September 27th – Our Club will be selling the People’s Choice tickets and our Plate Spinning Contest 
– Captain “D” Dash for Sight 5K Run/Walk, October 4th – combination of Trail and Streets (across the Park and through the neighborhood).  Preliminary Map Layout submitted to Parks and Rec. Once approved, we will kick-start our promo
– October 10th & 11thBelton Polka on the Square, Save the Date – unknown if we will be needed to participate
– October 11 & 12, Rescue Magazine Pet Adoption Extravaganza, 10am-5pm – Save the Date
– Date to be Determined, 2-4pm, CTCS, 14th Annual Fall Festival for families of children with special needs
– Thanksgiving Basket Delivery – Thursday, November 20th
– Christmas Basket Delivery, Thursday, December 11th
– Pictures with Santa for families of children with special needs – December 18th, (set up at 1pm), 5-8pm, Harris Center
– Lions Field, Smith Street and W. 5th Avenue – Jon Fontenot reminded the Board that our Club is a sponsor of the Baseball Field; the Park could use some updates; he is asking the Club to expand the sponsorship to an annual or other Support.  First suggestion would be $500 per year; Jon will get with Parks and Rec to explore other options of Support and will provide more information.  This item will be tabled until Jon has met with Parks & Rec.
– Membership Milestone Awards – Will we be presenting these at Christmas?  The Board agreed that Milestones will be in five (5) year increments; starting at 10 year membership. – John Corsi and Jennah Gliha.  Secretary has provided a Report of each member’s length of membership. – No discussion at this meeting
– Update on Cadence Bank – CD and other – on hold
– Belton Lions Wall at Heritage Park – James Harrison coordinating
– Tara Cotton (Belton) email to Lions International – daughter needs behind the ear hearing aids for bone conduction – insurance won’t cover the cost – pending family fundraising efforts to supplement any donations to be updated in 2025.
– Lions on the Leon AAR Meeting – is there an update from Belton City Council about a beer & wine permit in Heritage Park?  The 5K run did not make the Cen-Tex Race Series.
