BLC January BOARD Meeting Order of Business – February 15, 2024

Call to Order by Lion President Keith Cook @ 11:55am

Members Present: Keith Cook, Jon Fontenot, Karen Stagner, Christa Strang, Jennah Gliha, Danny Dossman, James Harrison, Mac Hickerson, John Corsi

 General Account – $ 8,362.76

Old Business:

– Update on Cadence Bank – CD and other – Jon Fontenot – we should have the CD purchase complete by the end of March.

– Charter Night – May 3rd, in the evening. Inviting District and Club Dignitaries; searching for keyboard entertainment; plated dinner; plaques for sponsors; currently have about $1,900 in pledges (and other) to cover expenses.

– Stampede Bike Ride – June 8th – Registration is open.  Time to start soliciting for Sponsors.

– Wacky Boat Race – Danny Dossman – Date set for Saturday, October 5, Danny will get with Sam Listi to confirm date availability. Danny and Emily asked Jennah to create a facebook page – Thank you Jennah.  Danny says the event should 2-3 times larger than our first one last year.  Danny asked new member Nick Valentine if he would join the planning committee.  (information relayed by Secretary Stagner from Jon Fontenot) If the May 4th election passes the liquor changes; It may be possible that Park Rules may be able to be changed to allow “Permits”. Danny will look into possibly having beer & wine vendors at the event.

– Membership Milestone Awards –The Board agreed that Milestones will be in five (5) year increments; starting at 10 year membership. –John Corsi and Jennah Gliha – it was agreed that the Milestone recipients will receive a plaque.  Jennah and John will get a concept design, plaque suggested size and cost to present at the next Board Meeting.
– Service Plaques – Danny Dossman presented the history of service plaques for President, Lion of the Year and other; and suggested that we look into going back into the nicer LCI plaques that the Club had given years ago; but started getting lesser local plaques during a time when the Club was scaling down. Secretary Stagner will look into LCI styles and pricing.

– Banner Stand and/or Specialty Products – Retractable banner handout. Secretary Stagner introduced sign, stand and pricing from Build a Sign.  Danny Dossman motioned that we approve roughly $100 to purchase the retractable sign; 2nd by Mike Matthews.  Secretary Stagner will create a proposed design for the sign – will be emailed to Board for Approval – prior to purchasing the sign.

– Specialty Products: We found Lions squeeze toys; and the previous BLC giant coloring book (given to Lea and Lorna to look into at the District and State level).  Fall Festival give-aways were about 50 of each item.  Lion(s) Corsi and Fontenot will continue to look into specialty products.

– Club Excellence Award – Secretary Stagner will apply for this year in July.  The Club will need to “start a new service project from one of the LCI Global Causes” to qualify.  BLC has already satisfied the other requirements.

New Business:

– Regular vs At-Large Membership status for Gene Ellis & Reese Davis & Lou Griffin – Secretary Stagner will email each of them with their dues reminder and ask if they want to change their status to At-Large; or stay as Regular Members.

– Donation to Texas Lions Museum and Donation to Texas Lions Foundation – after discussion; Mike Matthews motioned to start paying the optional donation(s) to District 2 X3 for both the Museum and the Foundation; 2nd by James Harrison; passed.  Secretary Stagner will contact Lea Batey for a District Invoice. 

Club Metrics: 1,770 people served / 13 Service Activities Completed, 849 Volunteer Hours, $7,500 Funds Donated, $2,900 Funds Raised 

Holding to a Later Date:
– District Cabinet Meetings – April 26-27
– David Shaw – Deployment bags are requested for our Adopted Unit – tabled until Lion Shaw is able to provide details.
– Belton Lions Wall at Heritage Park – James Harrison coordinating – plans are progressing.  Tabled until after Picnic in the Park.
– LEO – Leadership, Experience, and Opportunity
