The City of Belton and the Belton Area Chamber of Commerce have been working on the Belton Patriot Way project for the last year. The city has been in the process of reconstructing Central Avenue.  In conjunction with that project, the Chamber of Commerce has been selling sidewalk bricks to honor those who have served in our nation’s military. Both groups are working toward a final project to construct a memorial plaza at the intersection of Central Avenue and IH35. Our club has been asked to consider supporting this great project.  The Board of Directors voted to move forward with raising $2,000 to support this project, which still needs TxDOT approval.

The annual Lions Club Car Show will be held on Saturday, September 18th.  Lion

Larry Montgomery has done a great job coordinating this great fundraising event again this year.

Please consider supporting this event.  Lion Montgomery has various opportunities for you to help out with at the event.  Many require little time or effort but will have a great impact on the success of the event.

The Activity Fund was discussed at length and will be considered at the next board of directors meeting. The Activity Fund is supported by our fundraising efforts and supports our contributions to community activities and service projects.

We would love for you to provide input on our supported activities and fundraisers.

The City of Belton is planning repairs to the Lions Pavilion located in Heritage Park, as much of the exterior wood needs to be replaced.  The city plans to replace the wood with longer-lasting metal. In addition, the Lion’s sign on the building needs to be repainted. 

Our club has an opportunity to participate in the repairs of the pavilion.  The city estimates the labor would cost $1,700 to repair. We have been asked to considering supporting this worthy project.

Lion Joe Wiener (above left) provided the entertainment. . um. . . program this week.  Bell County Commissioner Richard Cortese (center - you sure can tell he’s a politician by that smile) discussed with the club the county budget, recent flooding, and his numerous agricultural trips to Europe and Canada.  He said that the country of origin controversy for beef and pork that started in Europe has some of our Canadian bovine bretheren hopping mad.  For the sake of illustration, included is a picture of Bell County Judge Jon Burrows(above right).

We had our first annual tailgate party to kick off another wonderful Belton Tiger football season.  Proceeds from this wonderful event go to help a multitude of local and international charities.  The good Lord saw fit that we didn’t celebrate this game alone and sent the rain.  The last time it rained this much, the Lord had just finished telling Noah that he would contend with man no more.  Well, it actually did stop raining - but not while we were out there.  Some wonderful pictures for your viewing pleasure are below.
