Belton Home Game Tailgate

Monday, September 14th, 2009

We had our first annual tailgate party to kick off another wonderful Belton Tiger football season.  Proceeds from this wonderful event go to help a multitude of local and international charities.  The good Lord saw fit that we didn’t celebrate this game alone and sent the rain.  The last time it rained this much, the Lord had just finished telling Noah that he would contend with man no more.  Well, it actually did stop raining - but not while we were out there.  Some wonderful pictures for your viewing pleasure are below.

Legacy Landing and the RAIN

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Lions Danny “Digger” Dossman and Stephanie O’Banion were on hand to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for Legacy Landing Apartments, being developed by Ray and Steve Severn.  Thanks to the Severns, our 2 year drought has ended and we look forward to 18 months of solid rain as they try to get their project finished.

The rain came down . . . and the floods came up. . . .

Belton Lions Club 2nd Annual Car Show

Monday, March 9th, 2009

For 70+ years, the Belton Lions Club has honored the motto of Lions Club International “We Serve”. Through a variety of projects, the Belton Lions Club has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for children’s projects and vision restoration in Bell County and around the world. Our latest fund raising effort is the Belton Lions Club Car Show. The inaugural event in 2008 attracted 84 vehicles, and the 2nd annual event promises to be bigger and better! Hosted by legendary radio personality, James Harrison, the show will once again feature “The GTOs” rock band in concert from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. interspersed with multiple award categories! Trophies will be given for 1st and 2nd place in the following categories: Cars, Pickups, Motorcycles and “Open” division, which includes Rat Rods, fire trucks and other novelty “rides”. Food is available on site and provided by Schoepf’s Bar-B-Q, (recognized as one of the top 50 Bar B Q restaurants in Texas by Texas Monthly Magazine) with drinks, chips and candy also available! Come enjoy an excellent car show, filled with fun and excitement, while visiting historic downtown Belton, with many local shops, including antique and dining options. The show will once again be held on April 25th at Don Ringler Chevrolet located at 7777 South General Bruce Drive, Temple Texas, located between the Midway Drive (Temple) and 6th Avenue (Belton) exits on IH-35.

Lions Field Dedication

The recently refurbished Lions Field was dedicated to the memory of our beloved Lion George Dulany on October 23, 2008. The Belton Lions were joined by representatives from the City of Belton and Chamber of Commerce, as well as members of the Dulany family for the dedication ceremony.

Lasagna Supper

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Attendance was great at this year’s Lasagna Supper. I want to thank everyone involved for making this such a successful event for our club and our community. We served approximately 366 meals and collected $725.00 at the door.  Our total net income from the event will probably be around $1,600.00. This may seem like we are turning a profit, but actually it is costing the club about $1,000.00 to host this event. Here is a quick break-down of the situation:

(Collect $50.00 from members for tickets x 50 members = $2,500.00 plus $725.00 sales at the door = $3,225.00 less $1,200.00 for food, advertising, signs and supplies less $425.00 for cafeteria rental and cafeteria staff = $1,600.00 net income.)

In reality, we collected $2,500.00 from members for tickets, to make $1,600.00 from the event.

                                                  $2,500.00 - $1,600.00 = $900.00 cost

The Board of Directors discussed this matter at our last meeting on September 11th and decided to possibly replace the Lasagna Supper with another fund raising activity or community event. Lion Quinton Locklin will be assessing the situation and will make a decision during his term as president.
